The Savile Row Commission

3 March 2026

He had made the appointment three months ago. He had thought about it for rather longer than that.

Featuring Beaumont

A rooster in a charcoal overcoat pausing at a Savile Row tailor's window, studying the suits and bolts of cloth inside

He had passed this window before. He had always walked on. There is a particular morning, it turns out, when one stops.

The tailor asked the right questions, and then the wrong ones, and then somehow circled back to exactly the right ones. He took notes throughout. It felt less like commerce than confession.

The herringbone made the argument first. The chalk stripe made a reasonable counter. He considered both with the seriousness they were owed.

To be measured properly is to be seen properly. He had not expected this to feel as significant as it did.

The suit would not be ready for sixteen weeks. He found, to his surprise, that he did not mind at all. Some things are worth the waiting. He had suspected this. Now he knew.
