Porte d'Auteuil, Midday

Changeover

A Rhode Island Red rooster in a cream linen blazer over a navy Breton stripe shirt, standing at the edge of a red clay tennis court with one wing resting on a green metal railing, warm Parisian sunlight filtering through plane trees, green grandstand seats in soft bokeh behind him

He had arrived for the first serve and would stay through the last — not from loyalty to either player, but because leaving early reveals something about a person he'd rather not know. The clay dust settled on his cuffs. He made no effort to brush it away.
