Chiuso

A Black Orpington rooster with glossy black plumage and a red comb seated in a vintage chrome and burgundy leather barber's chair with his eyes closed, a white-and-grey pinstriped barber's cape draped over him and his scaled feet on the footrest, in a small old Roman barbershop with a marble counter, folded white towels, glass jars, a comb and scissors on a cloth and a copper bowl, a half-lowered roller shutter onto a cobbled street

Until the Twenty-Fourth

The barber leaves for the coast tomorrow, and the shutter stays down until the twenty-fourth. He has the last appointment of the summer and waits under the cape with his eyes closed while the towels heat in the back.
