Graupel

A mahogany Orloff rooster with deep reddish-brown plumage and a small comb, standing upright like a gentleman in a buttoned charcoal wool overcoat with the ends of his sleeves in its pockets and a rust-red wool scarf, between stacked wooden crates of oranges and butternut squash in a large covered produce market in Johannesburg, light snow falling past the open side and dusting the nearest crates, a wet concrete floor in grey morning light
