Aldous was the first face on the books, and he has never let anyone forget it, chiefly by never mentioning it. He is most often cast as the photographer, a part he plays with such conviction that two clients have tried to book him for their own portraits. He took it as a compliment and declined.

He believes the best light in London arrives before sensible people are awake, and arranges his life accordingly. He reviews every contact sheet through a jeweller’s loupe, though he has usually chosen the frame before the film is dry. On location he is easy company. In the studio he is easier still, provided no one moves the stool.
