Light, Shadow, and the Art of Stillness
A technical exploration of the lighting philosophy that defines the Cock Photography studio's distinctive look.
Studio Manager & Master Printer
James Featherstone brings an uncommon precision to the art of photographic printing. A former Hasselblad technician and certified master printer, he oversees every print that leaves the Cock Photography studio — ensuring each feather catches the light precisely as intended.
His background in fine art reproduction — including a five-year tenure at the Hahnemühle Print Academy in Dassel, Germany — gives him an intuitive understanding of how pigment meets paper. James is responsible for the studio's archival printing process, equipment maintenance, and the logistical choreography that keeps a studio of this nature running smoothly.
When asked about the challenges of printing rooster portraiture specifically, he is characteristically measured: "The iridescence of a Copper Marans' breast feathers presents a tonal range that most printers would find humbling. Getting that right is not optional."
